Drama Director Bio

Patrick Headshot2Mr. McChesney, the Marcos de Niza High School Theatre teacher/director, has been teaching in the Tempe Union High School District for over 15 years now.  Mr. McChesney really enjoys working with young people and truly believes that the students at Marcos de Niza are exceptionally talented performers and technicians. “It is a lot of fun to work with young, creative individuals that know how to have a good time while striving to achieve high performance standards.” Mr. McChesney earned a B.F.A in Theatre Education and an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Arizona State University. In 2015, Patrick McChesney was nominated for the inaugural “Excellence in Theatre Education” Tony Award created in conjunction with Carnegie Melon University, and made it through the second round where he was one of 40 in the United States. “The nomination was completely unexpected and it confirmed that I am where I need to be. I cannot thank the students enough for acknowledging what I do and making me feel loved.” Mr. McChesney would also like to thank the parents and adult volunteers that make our production exceptional, from set building and costuming to volunteering at fundraisers and bringing in donations. “CDP is our parent booster group and I encourage every parent of a student enrolled in the Theatre program to get involved…. You will not regret it!”
