Grading Policy
MdN Fine Arts Department Grading System
Marcos de Niza High School Theatre Department Grading SystemIt is the policy of the Fine Arts department of Marcos de Niza to base student grades on points earned by a student in a semester. A student will earn points for various assignments, quizzes and tests each quarter. At the end of the quarter the student will be assigned a letter grade based on the points they have earned using the standard grading scale (See below). The student will start the next quarter and the process will be repeated. At the end of the semester each student will earn points on a final exam, which will be scored using the standard grading scale.

Standard Grading Scale:
% Range and Letter Grade
90 – 100 (A)
80 – 89 (B)
70 – 79 (C)
60 – 69 (D)
0 – 50 (F)
The overall semester grade will be calculated in accordance with district policy which states that two nine week grades will count as 4/5ths of the semester grade and the final exam will count as 1/5th. The teacher will use each nine week percentage earned along with the final exam percentage to arrive at a combined percentage score for the semester. This method will not only provide ease of calculation of the final grade, but also encourage each student to attain the highest possible grade each quarter and for the final exam knowing that the grade earned will contribute directly to the semester overall grade.
The Fine Arts department will also provide an up to date “snap-shot” of the student’s current grade online. It is our policy to update grades regularly. The URL for your student’s grades is listed below and can also be found on the school web site. Please feel free to contact me via phone or email any concerns. This is not a deviation in grading policy from past years, but rather an attempt to clarify the procedure used to determine student final grade.
